Holier Than Thou is my personal attempt at making notes and comments about playing a Holy Priest so that I might better myself as a player. Not just for my own edification, but for the good of my guild’s raid crew. I chose to call it “Holier Than Thou” as a jab at myself and not because I feel that I am better than others, or know more.

o after reading and reading and more reading (about 6-7 hours of research over the weekend), I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to play with my spec some more just to be sure that I’ve covered all my bases. I want to get the most out of the abilities I use and maybe add in a few more that I don’t use very often at all. Apparently there is some new ‘Renew Spam’ spec that’s going on. Or rather has been going on. I’ve been trying to stay away from spamming renew, but maybe it’s just what the guild needs to down a few more bosses. So why not give it a shot?
Anyway, I’ll have my shot at trying it out in tonights raid. It ‘should’ make Val easier to heal, but we shall see…
After The Raid..
Still the same thing : / My heals only hit 3.5k hps. Shammies sit at 6k+ and I’m feeling like flash heal is used way more often than it should be. I like the renew idea so I’ll keep working with it… But I’m still worried about losing my slot to a druid or a paladin that has much, much more output than I do. Or a disc priest that has more mitigation and utility? What do I have? Guardian Spirit? Woo. On a one minute cooldown I can increase healing and possibly save the tanks tush, but if GS actually saves the tank, I get bumped to a 3 minute cd.
On top of that, I still feel like a lot of the issues in my rant haven’t been fixed. There’s just been some tape stuck over the crack.

[singlepic=136,126,124,web20,left]I was looking at WoW.com and reading through some of the past articles from one of my favorite posters who just happens to play a disc priest. Not my spec, but a healing priest none the less. And a lot of the info there is very, very good. So, I’ll post some of it here for myself for later commenting when I get the chance to do so. And I’ll probably share it with my healer guildies for discussion on the forums.
On a side note, reading the post on the official Warcraft forums let’s me know that I’m not alone in feeling like I’m totally gimped and could lose my raid slot to a shammy. I’ve been reading blog after blog, strat after strat, plus gear sites that show me best in slot and I still can’t put out the heal numbers to match a shaman who can spam their ‘Jesus Chain’ and seem to heal a whole raid in two casts. To grab a quite from the post itself.. “That’s the only problem I see with playing a Priest; do twice the work, to get the same output as a Druid or Shaman.”
